Justing Springer No Payment For Promotional Work Ripoff

Being in the entertainment industry has taught me a lot about the law, and responsibility. You have to make sure you check up with all contracts, and follow up with people after you work together.

I've dealt with many promotional companies, photographers before and none have disappointed me yet. When I happen to come across a company who does, it gets me very frustrated. I'm not one to bash, but will complain when its due.

About a month ago my manager was contacted from Down 2 Earth Media regarding some promotional work at Hot Import Nights, Orlando. There were also 6 other models who were hired under my management.
All the paper work was done through email. Payments, times, and dates. The lawyer we spoke to said it's valid paperwork so we are going ahead with this report.

Down 2 Earth Media was hired by a bigger company (which will remain anonymous) to help them promote at the event. Following there being hired, Down 2 Earth Media hired me, and the other 6 models for the event; with an understanding about the payments for the job.

All the models I worked with had an understanding of the contract as well. We all showed up on time, and collaborated with their rules for the event. All in all we ended up working well together; UNTIL they decided NOT to pay us.
I understand it takes a few days for checks to get processed and sent but it does NOT take more than a month and some days to send them out. We have tried to contact them through email and phone calls and have refused to return anything to us. We wanted to report them to a small claims court, but our lawyer recommended us not to do it because it would cost US more than they owe us.

This to me is very upsetting. I haven't had problems with any companies before. Everyone is in this world to use their talents and make a little money, but how can we do anything when we have bad businesses trying to get away with all their fraud.

We accepted to work with Down 2 Earth Media because they seemed like a good company, and were hired by a bigger company to help promote each other. The bigger company has already taken care of Down 2 Earth Media, but it is not their job to pay us because they did not hire us..
Please if you have heard of Down 2 Earth Media do not work with them and expect them to pay you, it will not work. We have yet to see any checks in the mail and it's been over a month since we worked the event.
