My wife rented a Disney movie for our 9 year olds slumber/birthday party for the weekend then returned it the following Tuesday. She dropped it in their after hours drop box as we have done many times before. About 15 day's later, we notice a charge of $22.19 on our credit card from Block Buster Video. When I inquired about the charges with Block Buster, the manager rudely stated, "That is for the movie (title) you never brought back". I told him, "Excuse me but you don't need to take that tone with me AND, yes, my wife returned the video on the following Tuesday it was rented" He continued to insist that they did not have it. I asked him if they could just please look for it in their store and system, it may have not been scanned in or something. Again, in his rudest tone told me they didn't have it and the charges stay. Well, after contacting their corporate offices in Texas, I was assured that a regional leader would call me. After three weeks of waiting for this "regional leader" to call me, I called my credit card company, explained the situation and they have since, removed the charges from my credit card.
Block Buster has been the center of attention with the FTC over this kind of thing before and I think the FTC and other governmental regulatory agencies should look at them again because they are at it again... It is nice to know that my credit card company is protecting me from fraud and abuse from retailers...
