Politics & Government

I called Divorce By Phone several times to be certain they could help provide a real divorce for my daughter, who could not obtain a no-fault from a very bad guy who was flirting with many others, drunken, and basically totally disgusting toward her within weeks of the "marriage." He escalated to very frightening threats when she made it clear she did not want to remain married to him.

My daughter paid over 700 dollars to Divorce By Phone all at once when the months were over for the required waiting period to file in our state. It took her months to save up the fee, and she was elated when she could finally start working with Divorce By Phone, thinking her fees were paid in full. Not one time were we ever told that the fee was not complete. Not one time were we told that we would still have to pay court filing fees ourselves, or we would not have bought this service. We would have gotten the papers ourselves at the courthouse.

I had spoken with a mature person 3 times, and my daughter called and asked many questions herself, at Divorce By Phone, prior to my daughter going through with the decision to use this service. After receiving many papers and working on them several times, plus calling this service a few times for help, we were told to take everything to our local courthouse. We called before going there and were told it would be 250 dollars to file. We called Divorce By Phone back and they insisted they never said their fee included court costs, even though they used the phrase "our one - time fee complete is thus and such."

Places like this need to be scrutinized by the Better Business Bureau. Their ads in the phone book do not declare that no court fees will be paid by them. We never saw this fact or heard it from them prior to paying them.
