Tried to scam us!

Politics & Government

Our story is similar to other reports filed against this company.

A clean cut, young girl approached our door in the evening stating she was a part of an organization trying to raise money for a college scholarship based on a magazine "points system". She said the winner would also win a trip to Europe. She told us she lived in the neighborhood next to ours and she was going door to door to talk to her "neighbors".

She showed us her brochures of available magazines with their corresponding point value. She gave us a lengthy explanation of how purchasing magazines for troops overseas or as a gift for someone would earn her extra points. She also made it sound legit by stating that I could donate to a particular charitable organization, such as Cancer Society, etc.

I was slightly skeptical and tried to carefully look over the brochures, but being the good scam artist she was, she knew exactly how to distract me and keep talking so I wouldn't ask questions. Unfortunately, she did a good job, and I fell for it writing a check to D2D, LLC for $71.00 (she did make a point to tell me that she would earn more "points" if I paid in cash... Looking back, obviously cash is more appealing to these low lives).

As soon as she left, I told my husband I thought something was fishy so we immediately got online and looked up the company and sure enough, it was a scam! My husband tracked her down in our neighborhood, and watched her get into a parked car in the next neighborhood over. This car was a brand new BMW with Colorado license plate that read "HI PWRD". (so she obviously didn't live in that neighborhood like she told us).

My husband ended up following her to see where she went, and ended up at a low budget Days Inn in a bad part of town. He pulled up beside her and asked for our check back (we didn't want them to have our account info!), and she immediately filed through a pile of checks (she remembered who he was) and wads of cash, and she handed the check back to him, no questions asked. She knew she was caught!

Long story short, my husband called the police and gave them her tag and where she was staying and told them what happened. We also filed a police report and they took our check we got back and will possibly submit it for fingerprints. I doubt it will be high on the priority list though. Hopefully she will get the heck out of Oklahoma!
