Where do they get their leads from? Scam

My father received a letter stating that on February 22, his candidacy had been formally approved.

"The Publishing Committee selected you as a potential candidate, based upon your current standing as well as criteria from executive and professional rosters. Given your background, the Publishing Director believes your profile would make a fitting addition to our Honors Edition publication."

I like that they said "based on your current standing, " which is funny because hasn't really been doing much STANDING lately. More like laying down.in a coffin. For almost 8 years now.

I tried to call the office to give them a royal chewing-out, but was never able to get through. They have crazy extensions to dial, and I would get some generic message and the phone would cut off. I still plan to talk to someone, but now that I'm reading some of the other reports, I'm rethinking calling them from my own phone. Still, someone at that office deserves to get bitched at.

Also, I'd like to know how they got my father's name attached to the address the letter was sent to. He died 4 years before I moved to this location.

If anyone has insight as to where this company finds their leads, I'd love to know. They'll be getting an angry phone call too.
