Poetry.com suckered me in when I was about nine-teen, and I'm assuming that a majority of their victims are bright-eyed, busy tailed teens. However, I can't really say which percentage of their victims falls into what age group but one thing is for sure: they're going to scam anybody of whatever age if we allow them to keep doing it.

They send you a flattering letter to convince you of their singular interest in you, and you alone (this type of tactic works extremely well on young teens who're trying to make their way in the world) in order to butter you up. Then they ask you if you want to pay for their book, which is poorly put together and nowhere near worth what they want for it. Even if you decide not to buy the 'book' they still win because they get to exploit your poetry. It's one thing to pay for a worthless anthology that was never meant to showcase your poetry, but now www.poetry.com is selling our poetry on greeting cards, calendars, bags, plaques and t-shirts without our consent! It's time for us to stand up and do something.
