This monopoly situation has to end!

This is ridiculous at this point. We recently moved to a new address and ever since we have been receiving increasingly high electricity bills starting at $200 and now reaching $500 when we only have a one bedroom apartment to which we go back to sleep mostly.
When we call Coned to understand what is causing such high bills we are unable to speak to a representative as the time count until we speak to someone keep on increasing rather than decreasing. This is crazy! Are we really in New York? In 2013?
We recently decided to try using another electricity provider and found one which charges about 50% less than Coned per KWT/hr but Coned found a way to make the switch worthless as they have charged us $200 in delivery charge which more than the electricity provided even cost thus making our total monthly bill very close to last month's when we were still with Coned. Competition is a beautiful thing! And I thought this capitalist country understood that but apparently in the largest city, we don't get to choose. Looking forward to the $10,000 electricity bill next!
