Discriminative price lowering

Hello all, i would like to remain anonymous. I am an amateur illustrator and had a bad experience with workman publishing/highbridge in Minnesota. We were working on a joke-book and i was the "illustrator" i had planned to use the money i would receive to pay for the costs of a school trip. When we were done i was glad to hear that they were going to be paying me a total of $1000. I sent them an email saying that i agreed, and was very crushed by their response: they had split the price down to $500 because i wasn't "professional" enough. Due to the fact that i am a younger person i think that they were trying to take advantage of me and i do not appreciate that. Overall i say avoid workman they are cheapskates and are not to be trusted with others paychecks.
