Miscellaneous

A salesperson came to our door, asking us to purchase books to be donated to charity. My wife being an avid reader, she thought it was for a good cause. The salesperson stated that today there is a discount on the purchase of the books to be donated. She wrote a check for $29.00 for the book and was given a handwritten receipt for the transaction. End of story, so we thought.
Today we received a bill for the remaining balance of $29.95 for the book. Now looking closely at the receipt, it states "No verbal agreements recognized". Also, on the bill received in the mail; it states, "Any difference in price from order copy is either an error by salesperson or due to current price increases beyond our control".
That just doesn't sound right. We weren't ordering seafood off a menu, simply buying a book to donate to a charity.
The initial cost of the book was $58.95, but the salesperson said that was waived that day for the purpose of the donation. But yet, now we have received a bill for the remaining balance of $29.95.
This is truly a scam through and through.
