Consumer Report

Miscellaneous

A sales man, Tom, from Expo Sure USA contacted my restaurant under the guise of "Long Island Food Critic" wanting to discuss running a review of our restaurant. Once onsite we learned their company provided positive reviews of restaurants highlighting the best dishes of a restaurant. This was a service they provided if you signed up for their email newsletter marketing program - all for the reasonable cost of $195 / month. We thought it sounded great, signed and then were told the cost would be over $1000 with an initial start up fee of $395 and they wanted six months in advance. We told the salesman no - backing off the deal immediately and he told us not to worry, that the up front could be negotiated. We paid $590 - 60% and then were excited to see some intitial work. After three months, no work had been done towards our email newsletter nor had a review been scheduled. After multiple conversations with our 'rep' we were told that restaurants do not necessarily receive reviews and it could take up to six months before we might see our first news letter. On October 12, at this point we refused to pay the remaining balance of $390 until we saw some effort against work promised and requested to speak to someone in authority about our account. We were repeatedly put through to voicemail and then received a threatening certified letter in the mail threatening legal action. At this point we are looking for a full refund.
