Miscellaneous

They claim to be a "mystery shopper" organization and they send you a check in the mail with a list of three assignments. They tell you to call a number to activate the check and tell you to deposit the check. What made me suspicious is that they said money would be available 12-24 hours and the first three assignments was to send money through western union. For anyone who knows how banks work, they might make the balance of a check available immediately based on your account, but it actually takes checks 3-5 days for it to actually clear. Knowing this, I wanted to confirm my suspicions and deposited the check and waited. Sure enough, it was returned. The bank charged me $10 for returned check, but if I had fallen for the scam, it would have cost me close to $1600.
