Miscellaneous

I was contact by Dale Max on 10/16 on the Badoo dating site with what seemed to be a sincere email searching for a partner in life.
He said he was a widower and has a daughter living in Australia. After several emails back and forth I finally started chatting with this person on the Yahoo Messenger. He said very romantic things, and we chatted often. He said he was in the construction business and worked mostly overseas. It was only a about a week before he was leaving for a job in England. He asked me to call him before he left so I could get used to his accent. He gave me a number to call, 231—683-4065. I couldn't even understand him and he said he was born in Michigan, and lived there his whole life, but worked abroad. I questioned over and over why he has such an accent, and he insisted that it was due to his travel. He kept in contact through the yahoo messenger, and told me he loved me before he left on the trip after 1 week. LOL.
I played along with the charade to see what he was up to. Now he is in England building a strip mall. Materials are scarce and cost $8K more than planned. He paid for the materials, but now needs more money for equipment, and needs it by Tuesday 10/9. He never asked me for the money, but continued to bring up how he couldn't sleep due to worry about getting the money, and that his daughter was not able to help either. Finally, Sunday, he said she would be able to send him $600. I offered to send him $300, and an additional $300 on Thurs. He jumped at the opportunity to accept this money. He said he was waiting to hear from his agent, and would give me the details of where to send the money. I already knew that I was not sending money to a total stranger, no matter how sweet and romantic he talked to me. Finally this morning he sent me the details of where to send the money... Some name and address in Nigeria. I replied to him that "this is a scam" and "Bye", and he tried desperately to reassure me that it was not.

I did not lose any money, but it is hurtful to know that people use this medium to lure innocent people into sending money to them by developing a false relationship. Beware! Never send money to a stranger. I was on to him since last week, but just wanted to see how far it would go.
