An offer from the distributors of these products appeared on Amazon.co.uk, offering free bottles of the products plus handling charges of £2-95 each.

It sounded a good idea, and I used my daughter's name as I thought she would appreciate them. Payment was requested by credit/debit card, and they wanted the details as well as personal details. The debits were made on August 27.

There are clauses in the small print saying unless cancelled, a charge for the full price would be levied within a number of days, and a regular monthly delivery and charge would occur.

Not being of a suspicious nature, and quite naieve, I did not check the clauses.

I only found out the stupidity of my ways when I saw on my bank statement charges for £37-50 and £75-00 on 10 and 25 September, and a carriage charge of £4-95 0n 26 September.

I called them on the phone number given and cancelled each item separately. The technology recognises the customer and the products sold, and goes through a number of steps to cancel further deliveries. A cancellation reference is given. You need to go through the procedure for each item purchased originally. Cancelling just one item does not mean that the process will end for the other (s).

Had I gone into a branch of a local shop, I could have bought the equivalent for about $30 or $40.instead, this experience has cost me, a pensioner working part time, a week's earnings.

It would be nice if I were compensated fully, but there must be many folk out there unaware of what has gone on.
