Zimmerman Ford Dodging Engine Warranty Coverage on Ford Explore

I purchased a 2008 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition from Zimmerman Ford, in St. Charles, IL one year ago. It now has 48,000 miles on it. Car died while driving - no warning signs. After taking it to Zimmerman Ford, it was discovered that the engine/head gasket needed to be replaced. Basically, the engine failed at 48,000 miles. Unacceptable.

The head gasket is under warranty until 60,000 miles. Clearly, my car is within these guidelines. However, Zimmerman Ford and Ford Corporate state that the radiator (non-warranty part) caused the head gasket to fail, therefore they will not honor the warranty. They would like to, instead, charge me $6,000 to have the engine/head gasket fixed.

I took the car to a separate mechanic for a second opinion, and this mechanic says it was not the radiator that caused this head gasket to fail.instead, it was the head gasket that caused pressure build up on coolant system and thus blew out the radiator, thermostat, etc. (And, by the way, the thermostat is also covered under warranty). Conveniently, the only part that is not covered is the radiator. So, the warranty is a catch-22 for the customer. Ford can say any "non-warranty" part caused the "warranty" part to fail, and they don't have to honor it.

Zimmerman Ford and Ford Corporate have been extremely difficult to work with and my husband and I have been given the run-around in many aspects over the past week. To say that I am angry is an understatement, as this has never happened with any other car I have owned in the past. I strongly suggest to anyone to NEVER buy a Ford car or to work with Zimmerman Ford dealership in St. Charles. Ford does not stand behind their product or fight for their customer.instead, they find loopholes in warranties and let their customer foot the bill.
