I hired a van on 17th july from Bretby van hire to move house. On collecting the van it was filthy. I paid £75.00 to rent the van and £200.00 deposit. They refused to give me a receipt said i didn't need one. We were shown round the van by a disintrested member of staff who pointed out a few marks but not all. We then took the van away to move on returning it the next day we were told there was a large dent in the side of the van. I asked to see it and was shown a tiny scrape. We were shown this scrape when we collected the van. They said there was fresh paint on the side of the van so it must have just been done. We had the van parked on a main road at all times we had it. I refused to leave until they gave me my money back. They then became abusive calling me a scammer. They refused to answer my questions and took their till drawer away so that i couldn't steal it. I have never stolen anything in my life and do not appreciate not only being ripped off but then being accused of being a theif. When i said the van could have been scraped in the yard or by a previous person they said it was washed just before i took it away. How can that be it was filthy. When i insiste on seeing a copy of any records regarding this vehichle i was shown a card which stated this damage was already there. They still refused to give me my money back. I left without my money. Have contacted a solicitor but i cannot afford to take them to court. I have received a letter since saying the damage was definitley done whilst in my possesion. What proof do they have? I have seen proof that it wasn't. I'm sure there is nothing i can do and i have just been ripped off. Just wondered if anybody else had had a similar experience of this company
