First Energy Solutions screwed me - Residential electric powe

I switched to First Energy Solutions on the promise of rates lower than Commonwealth Edison, my local distribution utility in Chicago. My recollection was that the rate quoted was around $0.05 per kwh. Within months of converting — without notice to me — the rate skyrocketed to nearly $0.10 per kwh — approxomately doubling and, in fact, well above that of Commonwealth Edison.

I don't know whether electricity suppliers are obligated to give written notice of such a horrendous rate increase. I do know that I never received notice from this company.

I would recommend that consumers avoid dealing with a firm that feels it appropriate to treat a customer in this manner every bit as much as you would avoid herpes.

I am switching to a competitor that offers about half of First Energy Solutions' rate (Energy Plus Holdings) and promises no increase for 24 months.

In 22 months, I will call my new provider to determine whether they will extent a guaranteed rate. If not, they will lose my business BEFORE my bill doubles.
