I got an email from Canon New Zealand and as you know nowadays we do not see the domain name on emails as it is hidden. I have Canon products and they keep sending promotional emails, was under the impression that even this might be the same. Clicked on it, and it took me to a page ziinga.com/nz and I was still thinking it's a Canon tie up and went ahead without even reading the t&c's and provided the credit card details. I got an email saying I have won a bid for $4 for a camera, the email said it was a sale. I immediately got in touch with Ziinga customer service to cancel the subscription to which I was told there is a termination charge of $66 NZD and if I choose to continue there is a monthly membership fee of $118?
I told the rep that it has just been a few hrs since I committed the blunder and I am wanting out of it, she calmly said that I need to pay the termination charge and she is happy to cancel it. This was via chat, then I called the NZ contact number thinking I would get someone who might empathize with me and help me out but to my horror I got connected to Philippines and the lady must be on the road walking and assisting me, she said that they stand by the charges and it is in the t&c's.
These people need to be prosecuted for cheating unsuspecting people. Shame on them.
