A girl named Maria contacted me Filipinocupid.com. She was 26, turning 27, good looking (of course). I was new to the site so had no idea what to expect. If I'd been on for longer I think I would have realized something fishy was going on. Anyway, she got me off the site and to yahoo messenger (which a lot of them do). I did see her on a cam, but it kept freezing. Anyway, over a period of about a month, we developed this (what I thought was a) sweet relationship. However, what I didn't realize was that it always involved my sending money for various things. Her scam was quite well-conceived and elaborate, even involving her so-called "landlord" — this old guy (even sounded like a sweet old guy on the phone) named John Joseph Leonardo (johnjoseph. Leonardo@yahoo.com). A few times I got suspicious, but there was never enough evidence until I actually contacted FedEx in Thailand (where Maria was supposedly stranded on her way to visit me from Manila — with a ticket I bought for her, because she FORGOT her visa), where John supposedly sent Maria's visa (he even send me a nice-looking receipt), and they had no record of her. I finally cut it off and Maria was still acting like I was breaking her heart and she was actually in Thailand. Crazy. This kind of stuff is just evil, imo — toying with someone's heart. I got over it pretty quick because we never met in person, but I wouldn't mind getting my money back — so anyone in Manila — I have an actual address for her and both she and John are real people because they had to be to receive my Western Union money.
