Attention everyone
do not hire james ballou from ballou and sons from ri, ct, ma and god knows where else. He says he is a contractor and carpenter and was going to build an addition on our home consisting of a garage with rooms above.
Both him and his wife, sarah ballou, who has the license in her name have scammed us out of a lot of money-over 18,000 dollars for construction work not done at my house. He lied and never pulled permits, although he said he did. When asked where they were, the answer was in his other vehicle, at home or at his office and he would bring them. That didn't happen which resulted in 2 stop work orders. He never filed anything with the building inspector and he has not paid the sub contractor for the work that was done digging up my back yard which is now a complete mess. He even took off my back stairs and took them with him cause he liked them and he would build us new ones. Still no stairs.
Our back yard is a complete disaster area!!! It's all torn up and we can't let my grandchildren play in the yard because they will get hurt.
He never ordered any materials that he said he did. However we saw on facebook that he did put a new floor in his kitchen, got a new hot tub, and purchased a new truck with our money within weeks after we gave him money toward the work & materials. A month later, when nothing was done, he had the nerve to ask for more money, which he didn't get.

We paid him for a screen on our patio door, never got it. He put lights in our kitchen and was supposed to finish the ceiling, not done and the lights are falling out of the ceiling. He never returned to finish. He started work in the hallway that would lead out to the garage, never finished that either, but was paid for materials on that too.

When we can get him by phone, he is always coming, but doesn't and doesn't call to let us know and when we call and leave messages, we are always blown off. Calls are never returned. This started in march and now we are approaching august with no satisfaction of anything he has done.

Now we find out this happened to other people. James used to have the license in his name but it was taken away because he was sued in the past. Gee, he didn't mention that at all. Now it's in his wife's name and the same stuff is going on and i guess his wife is also involved in the scam because she doesn't answer her phone either.

Please share this with as many people as possible so people will not get scammed by him like we did and have to go through all this crap!

We are contacting attorney general and will keep you all updated on our progress. We are senior citizens but i guess they don't discriminate because they did it to their own cousin who sued them in the first place. If only we had known sooner, we would never have hired them. This is why i want to let everyone know as soon as possible. Don't get scammed like we did. We live in smithfield, ri but i found out he has lived in ri, ma and ct too.
