I had occasssion to go to my local jewlers; as I want to sell two rings, that had become to small, as my knuckles have Arthritis. One ring is a an Amethyst set in 14 crt gold, it is Victorian. The other is diamond cluster platinum ring, valued at 2.5K. I had paid £1,800.00 for this ring in 1989.
He offered my £65.00 for the amethyst ring and £109.00 for the Platinum ring. Having told me that the platinum was white gold.
To say I was taken aback was the under statement of the year. Any way I was wearing a gems tv ring; an eternity ring with multi coloured diamonds set in it, a ring I just love.
He went on to say he had never heard of coloured diamons, and offered me scrap value... His offer for scrap was twice the amount.
Needless to say I never sold to him any of my rings. However I did have a good laugh.
