I worked for this company for 6 months. For the first time since ive been out there, my tool-pusher ordered me and my operator to get out of the truck in the pooring rain and lightning and demanded that we rig up our poles and to start maintnance on a well for a pump job. Let me remind you that it was lightning and raining. This company doesnt provide you with any type of electricity regualted work gloves and to rig up at a location you have to turn the unit on and then off from a fuse box. Please note that a local oil production co. Lost a really great guy who worked for them due to similar events and it electracuted him to death! Bless his soul and may he rest in peace. Under the Texas Department Of labor, you have a right to refuse work if you feel uncomfortable due to saftey in the event could be life threatning or bring harm to your or anyone elses way. The toolpusher noted that it wasnt raing hard enough to not perform the duties ordered to do and that the lightning was a little bit west of us. It was raining good unough to have the windshield wipers on medium and for us to be the only crew outside working at that time. So i did what was best for my interest and refused to work under unsafe working conditions. When you mix water and oil together, it doesnt mix right? But it makes it really slippery and unsafe in itself. How much water does it take to have a breaker box electricute you? That right, one little bitty drop. I called the owner of the company, who obviousley is above him, to inform him that the practices him and his fellow other owners been trying to enforce during there so called monthly safety meetings is being violated as we spoke. His reply to me is that he is tired of people complaining to him and that he doesnt even care anymore that if i want my job then to do what i am told and if not then i could quit for all he cared! So i did my job as i was instructed to and put my life at risk for him. The next day my supervisor was demoted and i was transferred as well as the other hand to a different operator and location where i was forced to quit because the company stated in front of everyone else that they can thank me for all the changes being made because i called and complained to the owner because mine and a fellow emloyees rights was being violated.
