When you receive threats of arrest or criminal charges over an unpaid bill that may or may not even be yours, that is ILLEGAL IN ALL 50 STATES! It is a common scam that scavanger collection agencies with call centers in India are calling people in the U.S.A. Claiming to be with police or sherrifs departments making all sorts of threats, these slimelords have your personal information because they have your credit report and info from the original creditor, BUT don't be intimidated. The U.S. Ph# you see on you caller ID is phony, the India based collection agencies are using Voice over IP phone numbers to purposely make their calls look like they're originating from the U.S. File a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission, your state attorney general's office, dispute the item if its on your credit report, and block the phone #s that are calling you or hang up on them.
