Motherboard failed under three years and extended warranty price tripled

After less than three years, my computer blue screened and stopped booting. After much troubleshooting, it was determined the mother board was shot! I spoke to a kind tech named Roshanda who told me that as it is not that far out of warranty I could buy into the extended warranty program. I decided to wait through the weekend... Admittedly my second mistake (first one buying an HP). When I called back today... I was told that it would be almost triple the originally quoted $109.00!!! That was my only option. When I mentioned to the new tech that a comment on HP's own message board about a known issue with this model's mother board was what prompted me to call in the first place, I was again shot down. I appreciate that it is just out of warranty, but a reported known issue!!!?? The mother board in question is the M2n78-la! I will never purchase another HP computer again!
