Insurance Not Accepted

Upon being told I had a cateract and told it was a fast growing one that I should consider getting it taken care of quickly, the eye doctor called Schein Ernst Eye Associates, PC and asked if they accepted my insurance. The rep was told YES, we do accept that insurance so a date was set up for a consultation with their doctor. I was seen and examined on Jan 6 and dates were set up for the cateract removal surgery with follow up dates also. About 2 days before the date of the surgery a lady called from Schein Ernst and said they did not take my insurance. We cancelled all procedures immediately. I asked why they said they did if they were not going to take it now. I am on SS disability and have an ACCESS card. I was told they don't take welfare patients.
About 2 weeks after that conversation I received a bill in the mail for $135. I don't have $135 and would not have gone to them if they had told me they did not take my insurance. I should have also told you that on the day of my initial consultation I gave them all my insurance cards and they made copies but never at any time did they say there may be a problem with any of it. If they had said that, I would not have gone through with the exam.
I sent a letter to them with all the above information and they keep sending bills. Where do I go from now? I don't believe I owe this money since I was mislead in the first place by their representative.
My mother is writing this for me.
