Art Galleries, Gift Stores, Retail Stores Beware! If Joel Rubell from the Rubell Collection approaches you as an artist's representative and tries to sell you anything, SAY NO! Joel represents several artists across the United States and will show you several books filled with impressive art pieces (pottery, vases, glass, etc.) but refuses to tell you anything about the artist, including his/her name until you make a purchase. Joel will assure you that the price he is giving you is at least half of the retail cost and that your profit will be at least double. Because you don't have access to artist names, there is no way to verify the costs until it is too late. Unfortunately we fell victims to Joel's deceit and were devastated when we received the pieces and the artist information and discovered that the pieces were sold to us at above retail cost.in fact, most of the artists are selling the exact same pieces on their websites for much less. We approached Joel and gave him the chance to do the right thing and refund our money but he refused. He blatantly lied and said he never said his prices were wholesale. As a fellow business owner, I feel it my duty to help prevent other business owners from being ripped off. Hopefully you will find this report before you decide to make a purchase from The Rubell Collection.
