Anyone caught in this notorious scam is just out of luck — you will not get your money back. There are a series of these ads ("weird old trick to remove belly fat", "Mom discovers simple secret to whiter teeth") that all work the same way — you are lured into accepting "free" samples for just the cost of shipping and handling. If you don't read the fine print, you will be shocked to see an outrageous charge for the free samples in a couple of weeks, and the clock doesn't start when you get the samples, it starts when you order the samples. If you try to cancel, you can spend hours on hold. If you don't cancel, your card will be billed for the same outrageous amount every month. The only way you can stop them is to cancel your card.
We need to stop this — everyone should be letting the advertisers know, and everyone should be contacting their state attorneys general to put a stop to this notorious scam.
