After 21 years I filed my 2011 health insurance claim with Conseco. This is a supplement policy.
It was presented initially to pay 20% of the billed amount for outpatient charges and would not pay for hospital or drugs.
I sent it early in Jan. They first tried to file it under my cancer policy. I did provide my health policy number. This is not the first time they've done that. After about 3 weeks I rec'd a letter stating that I couldn't file under my cancer policy. I called and asked them why they weren't using the correct policy. They advised it would take about another month to get it to the correct people.
Approximately a month has gone by. I called the first of this week and was told that this policy has always been paid in error and that they would not ask for a refund but they would only pay if there was a balance due and they only 20% of that balance. I don't have balances due usually. I have depended on this policy to help pay for my drugs and my deductibles. Had I known of this change I would have cancelled it.
I was told this policy was developed to help teachers and state employees of Oklahoma who had Healthchoice insurance. There was always 20% left over after Healthchoice paid. They did sell it to a lot of teachers back 20 years ago. I'm guessing that most of the people who took this group policy have now cancelled it. Because it is a group they can't cancel me? I believe that is correct? Unless they cancel the entire group. I think they would like for this policy to go away.
