Tandem Transport Deceptive practices

I responded to an advertisement offering 5,000$ OTR sign on bonus I got the breakdown explained to me over the phone.

Upon arriving at Tandem Transportation's orientation we sign a TON of papers day 1 about quiting within 6months and oweing 1,000.00 Alot of companies now a days are doing simular things so I wasn't too put off. I was also explained that Instead of OTR I was signed up for Regional, but not to worry because they still have a sign on bonus of 3,000$. I asked for that in writting since that is the FIRST time I've heard about a regional sign on.

However upon asking the trainers/classroom instructors mainly Doug (operations manager), about getting the sign on in writting, I recieved a "We'll go over that later".

Thursday of that week after being asked AGAIN, he said he had to ask (mumbled some name) for permission to print it. (he kept showing me an email that explained the pay break downs). *I just wanted a copy of it, but he declined.*

All week the same story, finally friday arrived and we were complete in Orientation and assigned Loads, I asked again about the sign on bonus in writting and he refused. We were handed our certificates saying we graduated orientation, our alabama coil certificates and other misc paperwork.

Friday we had a severe winter storm here and the Trucks are 'super tens' which I had never driven before 'monday' of this week... I explained my concern with driving a different then I'm used to truck and told them I would be more then happy to load on monday instead of friday since its still snowing out (was very bad weather). I was asked to have a seat and they'll get back to me later.

Once the other class members went out to thier trucks, or off to a bus station they got back to me, Doug the operations manager whom I've been dealing with all week took me into a room and said "we've decided to not offer you employment"

So I wasted a week there, We had to pay for our own meals, except one day they gave everyone a 10$ subway card,
the classes ran from 7am to 5 or 6pm depending on what material he had to cover.

I'm not sure if the other guys are still there, the only other one that was going to pickup his load said he didn't want to drive in the storm either.

Basically they STRESS to you all week, if you dont feel safe driving in bad weather we want you to say so and we'll work with you. I told them and they decided to take back my employment, or not offer me a job as they put it.

If you come from out of town, make sure you have your own way home incase things dont work out!

Luckily I lived here.
