Miscellaneous

I called my insurance company and the phone answered "Be sure to ask about a free $100 gift certificate." A person began to present the deal which involved signing up for 123 Assist. I could cancel at anytime, but needed to pay $3.99 to enroll. I unfortunately agreed and gave my credit card. I sked where my insurance company was and was told that there had been technical difficulties on the phone and the call had been temporarily transferred to them and that they would connect me. I was then passed on to a 'verifier' who then tried to sell me an entertainment club package for $1.99 for another $25 certificate to Walmart or Target.By this time I was annoyed and asked to be transferred and he said his connection was down, but I could call the 123 Assist number that I had just bought access to. I didn't, but called my insurance company and got through.
How did I get to this sales line? I now have a $3.99 charged to 123 Assist on my credit card charges. I have a feeling it is going to be difficult to opt out and I will be charged additional monies which I will have to spend time contesting. Has anyone heard of this type of thing?
