Purchasing Power
Purchasing Power—A Ripoff in its Purest Form

Miscellaneous

Purchasing Power is the purest form of a ripoff. They charge anywhere from triple to five times (!) as much for everyday items like microwave ovens, televisions, computers, furniture and more. They won't even let you peruse their catalog because you would be so shocked by the outrageously high (comical) prices that you would instantly close your browser window. My company had the purchasing power flyer at work, and at first it sounded like a good idea, because there was no credit check. But therein lies the catch, and it's a big one at that.

Imagine paying $30 a month twice a month for six months for something like a microwave oven you can buy locally for $79. Or a flat-screen TV at $140 a month twice a month for six months. So you would be paying about $360 for a microwave oven that retails for less than one-quarter of that, or about $1,700 for a flat-screen TV that retails for $599. How crazy is that? Who in their right mind would agree to such ripoff prices?

As soon as I found out, I told everyone at work not to buy from these clowns that are doing nothing more than taking advantage of the poor. I had to make it know that Purchasing Power defines "ripoff." They target poor buyers who are employed with a no-credit check, but the return favor is that you have to pay five times what something is worth just for the convenience of having it shipped to you. They take out the deductions with each paycheck, although in all fairness, they do tell you upfront how much the ripoff will be out of each paycheck. There is something suspicious about a company who won't let you look at their catalog unless you can be a confirmed employee with one of their partner companies.

All I can say is stay away from Purchasing Power. Unless you like getting ripped off.
