Miscellaneous

I received a letter in the mail stating that I was a lucky winner of $9700.00 from filling out a survey. The letter told me to contact Leslie Rosen at (905) 782-0372 for further details regarding the prize.

The letter also stated that this was just the first cheque in the amount of $993.90 from them and was deducted from my overall prize winning of $9700.00 and it was a valid cheque but has not been activated and will not be made available until I called them that I had received the cheque.

The letter also states that by the U.S. Federal law which prohibits sweepstakes from charging me anything. However as per my state regulation I would be required to pay taxes at the end of the year.

The letter says "Do not lose your claim letter, as your claim number is all we have to identify you. If anyone other than the claim holder calls in with respect to this claim it will be CANCELLED. We have a zero tolerance policy for fraud."

I received this letter on August 19, even though the letter sent to me and also the cheque was dated 7/27, and called Leslie. She told me it was okay to cash the check and they would send another letter with the remaining dollars via Federal Express. I would then call again before depositing the last cheque.

I deposited the check on August 19th and then on August 23rd, I received notice that the check was returned because it was Altered/Fictitious.

I was lucky because I did not spend any of the money but how many more people has this happened to that might have spent the money.
