Enron like ripopff

While applying for a home loan i found out that it was reported to the credit bureau that I had late fees with Fleet C C. I have never had any account with them let alone a late fee. Nor now will I ever have or suggest people get a card for them.

I called their company several times to let them know there has been a mistake, but could not get in because they kept asking for my seventeen number account. Which if you never received a card how can you have? Certified mail does not help. What can I do about these people? They say I owe them 2000 dollars with 9 months of 120 day lates etc. Mike in California.
