Witamy great danes

As i have been talking with these 2 women for the past 3 weeks about buying a champion 3 year old great dane, i was finally ready to drive the 3 hours to go and meet the dane. I was preparing to meet a lot of the dogs because i was told they were respectable breeders and by the looks of their website you would think the same. We showed up at the house and instantly we were horrified. Before we even got into the house, which by the way should be condemned.

To our amazement surrounding the house was a 3 foot kennel, more like a fence with no top on it with about 40 adult danes, young danes and baby danes, getting rained on, walking around in their own feces, growling, barking and so upset from the conditions, we were scared and i was with 3 grown men. It is wisconsin and it is not the time of the year to have any dog outside, let alone 40. There was no food or water dishes to be found. Debris was everywhere. This was only the outside.

As we walked into the house, the walls had holes in them, you could smell the ammonia and feces before we even walked into the house. There was small dog kennels at every corner or free space in the house with great danes inside of them. Small dog kennels, schnauzer size kennels with adult danes inside of them. I am guessing there was 20 dogs inside of the house, 10 cats and small dogs as well. Not anywhere is the hosue did we see a water dish or a food dish. There was no where to sit in this house, this house that also had children in it. Not to mention the dogs were skinny, not bathed in months, had patches of hair missing off of them, had tumors on them or growths, scars, eye conditions, the list goes on. One pup was left on the porch so long in the rain he came in and was soaking wet.

As we were there talking with the women, there was another dog giving birth and when we were there she was delivering number 9. You would not know any dog was giving birth for the women never got off their chairs to even check on the mother to see how she was or even try to control the banshee danes running around the house. There was also a basement we did not get to see, i can not imagine what went on down there. How we felt when we left there i can not even describe, i left in tears, not only for the fact that we drove all that way thinking we were bringing home the perfect dane to add to the family, but for all of the animals that were living in the horrific conditions that they were. I was promised a champion show dog, that was perfect, the only thing perfect thing about this dog was that he was in perfect condition to be rescued.

We called the local police and they already knew who we were talking about. Reports have been made, nothing has been done. Not only did we spend 7 hours in the car, we spent over $200 in gas, $100 in pet supplies to bring the dane home. All we had to bring home was a heart broken son, an image that will traumatize all of us who witnessed this, and hopelessness because the local authorities seemed not to care. To say we got ripped off is being generous.
