ARCA Midwest
Assisted Recovery Center of America immoral Protocol and False GUARANTEES

Miscellaneous

Several months ago, I looked into using Assisted Recovery for alcohol treatment. There website and introductory meeting sounded very promising. At the time, I spoke with Neal, the owner's son, and was pleased with his smooth talking, salesman attitude. Both I and my family listened to what he had to say and decided to progress further, comforted by the money back guarantee towards such a big decision, that was so positively backed up with his carefully chosen words.

During my evaluation I informed Neal that I had been drinking, but was really confident in making a change for the better. He spoke highly about all of these great medications that would help to ease the process. I was sold. I signed a couple of papers, which explained some of the processes, most of which he filled out for me. I was also given a separate packet to fill out and bring back in, which I did not fill out.

After completing paperwork the tone instantly changed to become overly focused on the $3,500 up front fee, out of the total $6,500. My debit card was then immediately charged. I was then given a brief "physical" and analysis where I was prescribed three different prescriptions, which I thought was through them, but later found out that it was under a doctor's name whom I had never even met and who was not even present, or available, at the time. After paying the $3,500, I also then had to pay for my prescription, which I was told should have been included.

The medicine made me very sick and when my family tried to contact them the next morning, within less than 24 hours, to express our concern, not only did they accuse me of taking the medicine wrong, but then went on to give me different instructions than what both the nurse and the bottle had instructed to do, which is what I followed.

Uncomforted by the false accusations, lack of communication and unorganized protocol, I requested my money back and told them that I wanted to look into different options. The response that I received was very demanding and rude. I was told that I would be charged a $1,200 fee. I was shocked and confused and asked why and received a stumbled upon answer. Then, all of sudden the response changed and I was told that for "audit" purposes questions would be raised. It should not be my problem that unethical standards were practiced. Neal said I was committed to seeing their $500 doctor for evaluation and that technically I should not have even received any type of prescription without the doctor's full evaluation.

I called the doctor's office to inquire about their standard pricing, which was far from the $500 ARCA wanted to charge me. I also reviewed the paperwork and had signed no such release to even see this doctor.

My mother, step-father, and myself have all tried several times to try and get my money refunded. We have offered to turn over the unused medicine and have also offered to pay for the physical examination. I was refunded only $3,000. I have since spoken with Neal in regards to the remaining $500, his response was that he was busy and did not have time to deal with this and he hung up on me. WOW! How the compassionate tables have turned.

I have yet to see their doctor, no intentions of doing so for $500, and no refund of the remainder of the "GUARANTEED" money back policy.

I feel as though I was taken advantage of in a highly vulnerable state and urge others to really think about and be 0 certain before getting involved in the same mess. I cannot vouch for how well the program may or may not work; because I was so turned off by the way this situation was not handled that I did not feel comfortable moving forward with an organization that is based upon untrustworthy information, false hopes and negative attitudes, but also one that refuses to refund my money for unjustly written prescriptions and ultimately for doing nothing positive.
