Miscellaneous

A Living Scriptures salesman came to my door in August. Besides the fact that he did not read the NO SOLICITING sign on my front door, he also ignored me when I told him I was really not interested in buying anything.
So after about 30 minutes of giving his "speech" I told him that we would possibly be moving out of the US in the next yr sometime and it was NOT military related. This salesman told me that it was ok, that I could still call and cancel my contract, and because of the rare situation my family had LS would honor the cancellation. Ok, so if that is the case, maybe I will order some dvds.
I was given 1 piece of pink paper, showing what I had ordered, and the "free" goodies that came with my order. The free items came about 3 weeks later, along with the first shipment of dvds. Everything was going well, until Feb/ March when I called to tell the company that we were in fact going to move outside of the US, so I needed to cancel the shipments. The man on the other end of the phone told me that I would have to pay $450 because of the "free" items I received. I told him that I had not even opened them, or most of the dvds we paid for and that I would be happy to return the "free" items and pay nothing more. He told me that was not going to be possible and that I had to pay money.
Ok, I explained again what the salesman had told me about no obligation to pay or carry on the contract. The man told me that I had been misinformed, or I misunderstood what I was told. (Did he just tell me that I "misunderstood"?!?! —that is not good customer service!) I finally told him to send me the "final bill" and that I would no longer authorize any further charges to my bank account.
Imagine my surprise when in April I had still not received any final bill and my account was charged again for a "regular" shipment of dvds. I received the dvds, then closed my bank account.
I called Living Scriptures to ask why my account had been charged when I had not given authorization to continue doing such. I also asked where the final bill was that I was being forced into paying. No answer. The only answer I received from the rude woman on the other end of the phone was "Do you have another card number I can bill because I see that your card we had on file is no longer valid?" I told her no, I had to close the account because you people keep taking money from my account without my permission. That's called stealing!
That woman transferred me to another woman, who did not listen to a thing I had to say. She simply told me to hold while she got a supervisor. The supervisor was nice, but refused to honor the salesman's promise to me when I first started ordering in August. She also told me that I did not have to pay the 450, now it is 350, if I send back the dvds they sent me in April. I told her I can send the dvds back, if she is going to refund me my $100, for that shipment. She explained that I would have to pay $450 then. I am still confused as to why this company is not honoring the words that THEIR salespeople are promising customers.
There are at least 32 complaints on file with the BBB, 10 of them in the last year. BE WARNED to do your homework before you sign anything with them. And whatever you sign, make sure any promises made to you by a salesperson is put in WRITING. This company is not going to change it's ways. They are going to go on scamming people over and over again, as long as they get their money and you get screwed.
