Received a Letter Stating they were Closing my Account

I received a letter from The Children's Place stating that they were closing my account on April 7. They were closing my account, not due to any delinquincies. I have been current on the account, the balance on the account is $14.00. I have made every payment ontime. They listed their reason saying it was due to the amount of inquiries on my credit report, the amount of late accounts. I've only had 2 in the last 4 months. Those accounts I am current and no Past Due balances are showing on my credit report. The letter also states that this is not a decision that was made my The Children's place. I called them and they repeated the same thing. Stating I would need to Contact Equifax. I want to know first of all is this legal. Secondly. Why are they closing an account that is in good standing and and shows no deliquencies... Completely Upset. This is ruining my rebuilding of my credit Score. I'm disputing this with Equifax.
