What is this product really - Days ago

The infomercial for the Days ago product appears to be nothing more then a timer that you stick onto food containers to track how old they are.

Has anyone tried this thing.

Does it even work?

I am all for making cool products from simple ideas but why not just write a date on a container or write on some tape you put on the food.
