Price gauging on taxi fare

A business associate and I were attending a black tie eventand called Adams Taxi around 11:30 PM to take ushome. We had gotten their name out of the yellow pages. We asked the taxi driver to drop off my colleague in Bedford beforetaking me to my home in Bedford Hills. We literally had to pass my colleaguesstreet while driving to my home. Thetaxi driver arrived in a Cadillac and never used a meter. We dropped off my colleague and continued on 7 minutes tomy home. When we pulled in my driveway, I was horrified to learn that my totalwas $85. Other taxi rides for similar distances at similar times of night costsomewhere between $30 and $50. This taxi ride covered 7 miles in 15 minutes toBedford and then an additional 4 miles in 7 minutes from Bedford to BedfordHills. Given that Adams Taxi advertises rides from Mt. Kisco to JFK for $98 (covering 49 miles in 1 hr), I feel strongly that their fee of $85 that eveningis serious price gauging. The dispatcher never informed us of an eveningsurcharge or an additional fee to make a 30-second stop along the way at mycolleagues home.
