Brinks dishonest misrepresented contract

I had a Brinks home security system installed back in 2001 (maybe 2002). When the system was installed, the rep told me several times that I had a 3 year contract that I had to honor, but at the end of that contract I could cancel at ANYTIME.

I have been a subscriber to the monitoring service for approximately 9 years now. I've been in good standing and have had my bank account setup for automatic withdrawals.

The property where the alarm is installed is now a rental I own. The tenants that live there have lived there for about 3 years, and have never turned the alarm on. I figured it was about time to stop paying for it. When I called, they told me my contract autorenews every year (in 1-year increments) and that I couldn't cancel.

I explained that that's not what the rep told me. Didn't matter. Not only couldn't I cancel, I had to call back and give proper notice right before my contract autorenews (6 months from now). I threw a fit, and all they could do for me was make it so that I didn't have to call back.

After 9 years of being a customer in good standing, they couldn't do anything for me. Didn't matter that the rep misrepresented the contract.

I want to make sure others are weary of this company before they sign anything. And apparently it doesn't matter what the rep tells you... They lost a customer for life.
