Newegg.com
Fraudulent charges, refuses to cooperate

Miscellaneous

Several days ago, a fraudulent charge appeared on my mother's card statement originating from NewEgg.com. Her credit card information (along with mine) was stored in NewEgg.com's system. No sign of a recent order appears in the order history on NewEgg.com.

My mother contacted NewEgg by telephone, but the representative on the other end was not helpful and beyond unsympathetic. The representative refused to disclose any order details, and essentially said that since the item was shipped, nothing could be done about it. Through the representative's slip-up, we learned that the order was not shipped to a state in which we reside.

As a result of our talk with NewEgg, we learned that purchasing from NewEgg.com with our credit card does NOT give us the right to know any details of the order. Also, we learned that attempts to return our money would not be successful because our stuff was already shipped to "somewhere".

I purchased a LOT of things from NewEgg.com since 2004 because I have grown to trust them. To their credit, this is the first time we had a problem. I will not speculate about whether NewEgg is committing the fraud. Regardless, I am fearful of giving them my credit card details again.

Mistakes happen, and they're O.K., but poor business practices should be a signal to steer clear of any company. I think my mother's plea for help in response to the fraud committed could have been met better.
