Unlawful termination

Was layed off and an inmate was allowed to stay working in my department, I later left a voicemail to the company telling them they would not get away with this activity and I would do anything legally to punish them.
And how disrespectful is it that in this bad economic time the inmates are even allowed to keep their jobs before any civillian???
A few days later I recieved a certified letter from them indicating that my status was no longer lay off and was now terminated due to my voicemail message I had left and other reasons that are in violation of my civil rights.
I looked into the company's handbook which I still had and it defined lay off as an employee being terminated. So how can I be terminated twice?
Plus the events that took place after my FIRST termination can not be used against me since I was no longer obligated to follow any of their rules and policies.
And all of this has caused my unemployment to be denied and now I am having to appeal it. They also failed to report how their handbook defines lay off and this would have allowed me to keep my unemployment benefits.
I think this is a major legal issue that needs serious attention.
