Miscellaneous

A few nights ago, a man came to my house when my mother was home alone. I am writing this because my mother doesn't use computers. He told her he was 17 years old, a new neighbor, and home schooled. He said he was trying to make some money for his soccer team and that he was selling books to do so. After insisting on coming inside he continued to tell my mother that he was selling childrens books and that if she did not want a children's book, as many other people in the neighborhood did not, that he would donate the book to the Texas Childrens Hospital. He was very well informed about our neighbors names and was very convincing. However, my mom became a little suspicious when he kept pushing for her to give him cash. Eventually she gave him some cash and a check to pay for the book. He then hugged my mother and left, which is very frightening. A few hours later, a neighbor called and informed her that either him, or one of the boys in his group, had assaulted the women that lives across the street, who by the way is probably in her sixties. Aside from that, he had gotten checks from most of the neighbors, and others in other neighborhoods. People had come to realize that the whole thing was a scam. I looked up this company on google.com. The third thing that comes up in the search is the just the beginnings of all of the online complaints about this company. Obviously, the company is not responsible entirely for these young men's actions. But it is responsible for giving them materials to dup people; they have committed negligence. Something needs to be done about this company. It is well known, on the internet at least, for fostering scams. This man could have assaulted my mother or worse. To top everything off, there is no way to contact this company via telephone, or anyway to contact them other than a contact form on their website. I'm not expecting anything back, but I have also sent them a complaint.
