Shieling Lim and unethical business practices

They only want your contacts.

I applied for the position of Financial Advisor with John Hancock and 2 weeks later I received a phone call from, what seemed like, a very nice man. His name is Shieling Lim and he was interested in meeting me for an interview.

In this economy, I'm somewhat skeptical right off the bat.

First of all, I've got no experience as a Financial Advisor and have yet to complete my degree. I essentially have no qualifications other than my limited intelligence.

On interview day, I arrive at 777 Township Line Rd. And make my way to Suite 220 on the second floor. The lone secretary seemed rather polite and informed me that Shieling would be with me shortly.

Not 10 seconds later, a little fella introduces himself and begins to tell me how extravagant his lifestyle is.in the end, the little guy ends up being the boss of this branch.

(I'm only slighting what I perceived as a bloated ego, I'm cool with little people.)

Shortly after my encounter with the boss man, Shieling Lim politely enters and leads me to his office. So far so good.

Then it got weird.

The interview began with Shieling informing me that his priorities are:
1. Health
2. Family
3. Work
Meanwhile, the only picture of family I can see in his office is a German Shepard.

Throughout the interview, Shieling asked me a total of 10 questions and 6 of them were more suitable for a 7th grader. I barely got a word in. He went so far as to inform me what he would do if he won the lottery. He also assumed he was smarter than me and gradually began speaking down to me. It was actually quite amusing.in fact, he went so far as to tell me that people who aren't that smart can make it in his industry just fine. Apparently so.

The icing on the cake came when he informed me that I should bring a list of all my business contacts with me for the 2nd interview. At that point I was ready to get up and leave. When I finally began to leave his office, Shieling shook my hand and proceeded to usher me out of the main office as quickly as possible. I attempted to stall and see more of the working environment a guy like me would be given, but he wasn't having it.

I did manage to see two cubicles that were empty save two straggly looking guys and two 15 year old $30 telephones. One of the guys asked Shieling a question and he hunched over with him, and became annoyed by their interaction. It was obviously someone Shieling had recently hired and the guy didn't know what he was doing. Not to mention, Shieling was annoyed by him. Why was he there?

What he is doing isn't a capital crime. However, I almost gave up a pretty good job in order to give John Hancock a shot. These guys are preying on the vulnerable. Nicholas Dawit is the little guy. They aren't providing opportunity, they are giving these guys a cheap used phone and a desk, and I imagine they're taking a nice percentage should any of these guys actually sign a client.
