Comission only, ripoff, scam

Miscellaneous

I initially applied for this position on June 2nd, and received the following email on June 3rd. It said it was marketing for restaurants and sports teams.

Global Marketing, Inc.
3333 Bowers Ave Suite #130
Santa Clara, Ca 95054
408-200-9895

Hi Jesse,

Thank you for your interest in a position with Global Marketing, Inc. My name is Stacy Joseph, and I am the Human Resources Manager. I've received your resume, reviewed your qualifications, past experiences and skills, as well as compared your resume to others received. After evaluating these things against our criteria, I would like to invite you to come in for a personal interview with one of our managers.

Congratulations on being selected, as there were many resumes that were submitted and reviewed. With new locations, new clients, and current campaigns that include some of the area's professional and amateur sports teams, as well as a few of the region's premier restaurants, golf courses and entertainment venues on the horizon, it is important that we set up an initial interview as soon as possible.

Please call our office at 408-200-9895 between the hours of 9am to 5pm to schedule an initial one-on-one interview. Please note the interview will take place at our Santa Clara location. Thanks again and we look forward to speaking to you soon!

Sincerely,

Stacy Joseph
Human Resources Manager

They called me that day as well, and I told them I couldn't come in for an interview right away because I was still in Irvine. They told me they would call me if they had any positions left by the 15th. They called me a couple weeks later as promised, and I went in the next day for an interview.

It only lasted about five minutes, and Sarah the interviewer immediately offered me a second interview. I was excited and took the opportunity. The second interview was from 9 to 6 the next day. I went with Julie and Sarah as watched as they tried to sell various coupon books to local businesses.

We spent most of the morning in a hospital until we were escorted out. I was offered the job at the end of day during my "third interview" and I took it. I was working at 8 am on Monday morning. I did three days of training with different trainers and made $150 for 30 hours of work, or $5 an hour, so nothing very good.netting me $6 over two days.

The next day I went on my own and only sold one pizza coupon. The day after the same thing happened to me, and I quit.

The first hour of every morning is wasted in a group meeting where we do stupid chants and talk about strategies.

The worst part is that they actually tell you to be completely dishonest with people. The best strategy for selling the coupon books was to take a business card of one person you talked to, make a bunch of fake receipts and claim that said person bought a large quantity of them, even if they didn't buy any. This is called "jonsening" or making people feel the need to keep up with their neighbors. This is the quickest way to success in the company, and it is something I could never do, because it basically means you make up stories about people and how they're going to use their (sports tickets/cruise tickets/etc.) It works, but it's borderline illegal.

Everyone at the job is nice, but the problem is that it takes a lot of dishonesty to make your money, and I just can't do that.
