Contest Winner Check Scam

Miscellaneous

I received a letter and check for $4500.00 from Larry Cole and his company TML. The letter instructed me to deposit the check and then send a money order for $3750.00 to a Maria Meyer (10 Oxford Street, WC 12 PD, London United Kingdom) and following that I would receive a certified check for $150,000.00 for being the winner of the "Consumer Promotion Draw".

The letter stated that the $3750.00 was to cover taxes on my $150,000.00 prize. It also stated that I was not to do anything until I had contacted a Raymond Johnson (866-223-6472) for advice on how to claim my winnings.

The letter also stated that I had been selected at random from shoppers in the U.S.A., Canada, and The UK from my name being "attached" to an entry slip I had submitted at one of a number of large retail stores (Wal-Mart, Sears, Dell, Home Depot, etc...) in those countries. I have never submitted my personal information at any business for the purpose of entering any sweepstakes or contests.

I called the number, not to ask for advice, but to let this group of scumbags know what I thought of their obvious scam and how certain people might fall for it and suffer a huge financial loss. They didn't appreciate my comments and hung up.
