Magazine subscription scam and email fraud (posing as Bank of America)

Miscellaneous

Like many others, I was guilted and pressured into buying a magazine subrcription that was riduculously overpriced to help someone in need win points for a trip. He snuck into my apartment building, knocked on my door, and fed me a sob story about being a military orphan. Against my better judgement, I chose a magazine and wrote him a check. As soon as he left, I looked the company up and saw the countless scam reports and immediately took steps to cancel this transaction. Unfortunately, he and the company now haver my bank name, checking account information, phone number and address. I was however, smart enough to write my junk email address on the order form. Here's where it gets even more tricky: The same day I was scammed (Tueasday), I immediately sent out the cancelaltion form/reciept (as the company only gives you 3 days to cancel the order). With it, I included a note saying that I contacted my bank and put a fraud alert on my checking account. I then got an email that Saturday to my junk email address (which my bank does not have) regarding the "call I made" to the bank on Tuesday. It claimed to be a survey about my call but asked for very personal and unusual information. I would have dismissed it as random spam mail, but the email knew I called my bank and mentioned the exact date. I called my bank and they confirmed that the email was not from them. No one else had this email address, and no one else knew when I contacted my bank. This is so illegal and has to be grounds to shut them down and/or sure. This company tried to scam me twice. Someone please let us know what we can do. I am in the proccess of contacting a lawyer.
