Terrible Job and 50% Price Increase over estimate

Miscellaneous

I moved from Springfield Tn to Oberlin Ks in May. I went online and Roger, Senior Moving Consultant for Nationwide Relocation contacted me. I was given an estimate and he was given a credit card number for down payment. I was next contacted by Lisa, Quality assurance for Nationwide and we went over and re-calculated weight and boxes. The estimates were higher and I again gave a credit card for a down payment. Total for the two was $2979.00.

My estimate with Nationwide was for 7000 pounds and 60 boxes for a total of $4500.00. At no time was I ever informed that Nationwide was a broker and it wasn't until my belongings were on the truck did I discover that I was being relocated by Sirena Movers out of Phoenix, Az.

I couldn't be present for the actual packing and had I been present my things would have never been put on that truck. A friend was present to supervise but never having seen a professional move he didn't know to stop them.

I was contacted by Nationwide while in transit back to Kansas and was informed the truck was at its destination and the driver would need a check for $5989.00 because I had gone over by 2000 pounds and 129 boxes.

I can see paying extra, but not 50% over and above the estimate when the major number of boxes used were those that I purchased from U-haul. No expense to them and many of those I had already packed. The boxes that they did use were purchased from Home Depot, maybe 30 total.

At pick-up they reported that all of my furniture already had scratches but failed to document the location of said scratches. I guess that is to cover for all the damages they did to the furniture. They moved my upright player piano with an appliance dolly and damaged that.

I have been opening boxes all week and I have yet to find a box that had any packing material or padding. I have glass mixed with metals, wood and tools. The boxes weren't numbered and the bill of laden had no description of contents in each box.

The bill of laden lists items that I carried in my car. It lists wardrobes and there were no wardrobe boxes.

At the receiving end my poor mother was harassed by these two men because the first thing they wanted was a certified check. They finally started to unload after she told them I was transferring the funds and she would go to the bank. They used my sister and cousin as day labor to unload the truck (without compensation) and there only concern was getting to Manhattan Ks. To pick up the next load.

While I was on the phone with Nationwide trying to negotiate a better price and trying to find out why a 50% price hike was being pulled. The movers were on the phone to their boss, Maya and they were told to hold my belongings until they had a check in hand. If I didn't want my things held hostage then I had to pay despite the protest.

Nationwide has offered a $100.00 reimbursement but only if I will sign a paper releasing them from responsibility for damages. No Way. First they should make it very clear that they are not movers and secondly if they are sub-contracting they need to do a better job of screening. Having been through 5 professional moves in the past to as far as Alaska, I can assure you that this was not a professional pack or move.

I was told I would get a claim form in the mail and when I didn't receive it, I called Sirena Movers today and asked for Customer Service. Guess who answered and said she was customer service, Maya. I reported all the problems with the move and was informed they had been in business for 6 years and had never had a complaint. I informed her that I was looking at a webb site that stated there had been complaints. She admitted to having two complaints and ask, "Don't you think thats a good record, 2 in 6 years?" I disagreed.

She finally agreed to send the forms requested but told me it wasn't likely the insurer, Anthem Claims Management would do anything since the movers reported no damage. I again told her that my family signed the paperwork stating my goods had arrived but not what shape they were in. They were very pushy with my mother who is elderly and sick and she called me almost hysterical.

I told her that prior to leaving they handed my sister a $10 bill for a piece of etched glass that was broken. Actually there were 4 broken and I later found a shadow box facing the wall in the back of the garage behind a table that was broken. (value $600.00).

She then ask me who the drivers were and I stated that a profile of her company shows that she only has two employees and that should be in her records.

Following this conversation, she returned a phone call to me and reported that her drivers knew there had been no damage because they had opened every box to rule out damage. That is flat out being dishonest and I have pictures to prove it. I personally opened the boxes and was horrified to find nothing protected and no rhyme or reason to what was together. She also informed me that if my sister and cousin were present that there wasn't any way they could have been so pushy with my mother.

These people are not professional movers, not professional packers and I was way overcharged for services. Yet, both Nationwide Relocation and Sirena Movers advertise a 75-85% discount. False advertisement. I am trying to find if they are truly liscensed or bonded.

I did locate under FMCSA USDOT number 1425761, Docket Number MC53967, Legal Name AMER SUTKOVIC, DBA (doing Business as) Sirena Moving a notation for under Revocation History: Contract Authority showing involuntary revocation on two occasions.

Buyer beware of Nationwide Relocation and Sirena Movers.
