Need My Tehephone service back

I was going to switch to vontage for telephone service. When i received my devices they would not work with my internet service. I called to let vontage know that i could not use their sevice and i needed to go back to at&t. They have my phone number (which i have had for 22 years and will not transfer it back to at&t) i have been without phone service for 8 days and every time i call i get someone new who does not know what they are doing. I own two business' and can not receive any calls because vontage will not release my phone number.
