Dominion Law Associates - Pender & Coward
Harassment, mailed Summons (illigal), using deceptive collection practices

I first started recieving letters from Dominion Law Asso. Regarding an old hospital bill. At firt. Since they were addressed to the wrong first name, I was returning them. One day I just opened it and yes, it was our bill. I tried to call that time for a payment arrangement, but never got past music.
Before the date to appear in court, the woman I spoke to (who sounded very scripted) told me that if I pay $500 that day and $500 by 2/13/09, the court date would be cancelled. I sent those two payments and then started getting harassing letters first from Dominion Law Associates and then from Pender adn Coward, who by the way sent me the reciepts for the $550.00 I paid previously. They also have the same telephone number and also cannot get past the music so after 20 minutes I hung up. After I made the payments on time, I recieved a letter from Dominion saying something to the effect of "You can ignore this for 20 years but then you'll still have to pay this bill with lawyer fees and interest". The letter, however, was very sarcastic. This week I have gotten 2 calls from Pender & cowarrd and I missed them. Again, both times I tried to call back and sat at least 20 minutes through music. To reach them, by the way, it was the same telephone number as Dominion Law's.
Yesterday in the mail, I recieved a collection letter from Pender & Coward and included in that letter was a Summons to appear in court on March 5th however - if I make the payments before then it'll be cancelled out. I don't know much, but I DO know that sending a Summons in the mail is not legal.
Dominion keeps threatening to garnish my husband's wages. I am on Social Security Disability and as I said, this bill is in my husband's name but I handle the finances and he NEVER talks to anyone on the telephone, he hates it, so I handle everything. Problem with this, another problem I should say, is that the stress is affecting my disability giving me much pain from the stress. I made the 2 payments on time and the next payment was not CLOSE to due, so why keep harassing me with phone calls and nasty letters? Fortunately I refused to give them my husband's work number from what I have read from other victims of this bunch. I don't even know for sure that if I pay one, is the other going to continue to come after us even though they are connected? (I know some are thinking force my husband to handle it but trust me, won't happen. He won't even call himself out sick for work)
I get one summons, make a payment and get told that the court date is cancelled, make another payment and then start getting letters about garnishment OH and that they have a judgement against us to pay. HOW can they have a judgement if # 1 - we got no copy of it and # 2 I made the arrangements after a PROMISE that the court date would be cancelled and made them as asked. After getting the nasty letters about the judgement, garnishment possible and sarcasm, and then the summons from Pender & Coward, I didn't make the payment due March 13th. I am SO confused and I DID speak to my husband about this and he thinks that there is a lot of illigal things going on, especially the Summons. I want to know how there can be a judgement against us if I paid as she said? This was a Ms Oaks (ext 360 I believe it was) I saved all the letters from both Dominion Law and Pender and Coward with the Summons. I cannot afford a lawyer, else I would go to one. I'm at the point where I don't even know whether to pay them any more money or not.
(Part of my disability is memory and comprehension so please excuse if I repeated myself and such.) I really need to know what to do. We are both confused and do not want to pay them another cent, especially after the sarcastic letter. It was VERY unprofessional, then also came in the summons in the mail.By the way, the first Summons was delivered for the court date that was supposedly cancelled.
