I was looking for help finding federal grant money for much needed home repairs for low income people. I found the Alliance Benefits Consultants in a search engine and wound up paying them $295 to find grants specific to my needs and circumstances. It took 8 months of phone calls, complaints, and threats of legal action before I finally got their "customized" packet of information to help me. This was a 20 page document of sites easily found in a Google search and none pertained to the requirement I had stated that I needed.
There were 45 items that were for things like military headstones and cemetary plots, Other items were for starting small business, applying for healthcare, and many items that were far below my stated income. When I called and stated that their information was worthless to me and asking for a refund of my money I was informed that I would have to apply for at least 3 items and send them the rejection letters before I could get my money back.
I then stated that unless they refunded my money I would be reporting them to the attorney general and the better business bureau, their response was "go ahead" they could deal with the attorney general. After I filed complaints with the attorney general and BBB their resolution was to send me the exact same packet of information again. The only change was that they had spelled my name incorrectly. I will be following up with the attorney general, but doubt I will ever see my money.
